Taxpayers are reminded to complete payment of the 2021 vehicle license tax by the May 3 deadline

The Taxation Administration has announced that the statutory payment period for the vehicle license tax of 2021 is from April 1, 2021 to May 3, 2021. Taxpayers are reminded to complete payment within the given timeframe. If taxpayers have lost their payment notices or failed to receive them, they may apply for re-issuance with the local tax collection authorities in the same district as where their vehicles are registered or at the service counter of their local motor vehicles office.

According to Article 25 of the Vehicle License Tax Act, a delay penalty that amounts to one percent of the tax due for every two days of delay, with a maximum of 15% of the tax, shall be levied on taxpayers who fail to pay their vehicle license tax before the deadline as stated in the payment notice. Where the period of delay exceeds thirty days, the case shall be referred for compulsory execution.

The Taxation Administration reminds taxpayers to complete payment by the deadline as stated in the payment notice. In order to provide multiple convenient channels to pay tax, taxpayers may also use their Citizen Digital Certificate, Ministry of Economic Affairs Certification Authority (MOEACA) IC card, financial certificate, or enter their “national ID number or business administration number + license plate number” to log into the local tax online filing website (https://net.tax.nat.gov.tw/) for inquiries and payments. In addition, the Ministry of Finance provides many options for payments, such as convenience stores, ATM transfers, demand (savings) deposit accounts, financial institutions, designated account transfers, credit cards, and IC ATM cards. Also, taxpayers can download the “Mobile Payment Provider Tax Payment App” or scan the QR-Code on their tax notices for payments.

Taxpayers who are unable to complete the payment within the given timeframe due to the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic may apply for a deferral or installment payments with the tax collection authority. For further information about how to apply, please visit the “Measures to COVID-19” on the Ministry of Finance’s official website https://www.mof.gov.tw/Eng/htmlList/6637, or dial our toll-free number 0800-000-321 for inquiries.
